The HP 16500A is a mainframe logic analyzer that loads its software off of floppy disks. As sold on Ebay or Usenet, they often lack the disks without which they are useless. Luckily, the software for producing the disks is floating around the internet, one problem is that it requires DOS to work; NT, 2000, and XP will not run the program. The software packages are also too big to fit on a single floppy. My solution was to burn a DOS boot CD - pop it in, reboot into DOS, make the disks and return your computer to normal.
Use this software at your own risk, it worked fine for me and I suspect that it will also work for you.
I used standard 1.44mb floppies and followed the instructions in the readme file. As the bootdisk emulates the A: floppy, you must switch the floppy drive to write to in the HP software, B: instead. My suggestion is to format 7 floppies, load each of the included disks onto a floppy leaving one blank. Turn the blank disk into a custom boot disk for your analyzer configuration and leave it in the rear floppy slot.
Some users report problems with my original iso. You can either use IsoBuster to extract the files or; Geraldo sent what he says is a fixed version of the iso that should work for everyone.
